Has your diet been leading you down a path of oral health destruction? Are the foods you consume damaging your teeth and gums?  When selecting your dietary choices, limit or eliminate the following risks:

– Protect your smile against heightened risks of tooth decay and gum disease by avoiding sticky and chewy foods. The reason is due to the fact that some products cling hard enough to your teeth they can resist brushing treatments long after you’ve eaten.  Sticky foods are also notorious for damaging existing dental restorations.  Salt water taffys, for example, can pull your crown right off!

– Be careful when biting into rigid foods, as many oral accidents and injuries are caused when teeth are chipped, cracked, or broken off by simple materials that are just too hard for your teeth to handle.  Ice, for example, is not meant to be chewed.

– Try your best to avoid sugar, and foods that convert quickly into sugar, since these foods will rapidly feed your oral bacteria.  When the bacteria are allowed to eat, they will produce out acids that dramatically affect the acidity of your saliva.  When the saliva is out of balance for too long, teeth will have a very hard time staying healthy.

Make sure to take good care of your teeth, so they, and any current dental work you have, can last a long time. It is always easier to prevent decay than it is to fix a cavity.
